About the Event
On August 10, 2024, the Grand Junction Convention Center hosted the Next Steps Neurodiversity Expo, a free community event supporting neurodivergent individuals of all ages, including those with autism, ADHD, developmental disabilities, and more. Families, individuals, professionals, and advocates came together to access resources, meet local providers, and attend educational presentations designed to increase understanding and support across the lifespan.
Thank You to Our Sponsors and Vendors
This event was made possible through the generous support of our Hero Sponsor, Rocky Mountain Health Plans, and our Visionary Sponsors: Horizon Neuropsychological Services LLC, Oliver Behavioral Consultants, and Pulse Line Collaborative Training LLC. Their partnership played a key role in ensuring the Expo remained accessible to the entire community.
In addition to our sponsors, a wide range of vendors and community partners contributed essential information and services. Organizations such as the Autism Society of Colorado, Adaptive Heroes, Colorado Discover Ability, ScenicView Academy and Mesa County Libraries helped create an environment where attendees could connect directly with experts in mental health, adaptive recreation, educational supports, care coordination, and more. Families explored opportunities for therapy, vocational rehabilitation, adaptive technology, inclusive travel, and other crucial services.
Informative Presentations
The event featured a series of expert-led presentations offered by the IM Learning Institute and Pulse Line Collaborative Training. Topics included ADHD simulation, cognitive behavioral strategies, and neurodevelopmental evaluation processes. Dr. Katrina Katen and Andrew Katen of Individual Matters, LLC, shared practical insights and tools for understanding and supporting neurodivergent learners.
A standout session was a two-hour presentation by Ali Thompson of Pulse Line Collaborative Training LLC, a former law enforcement professional. Her session focused on improving interactions between first responders and individuals with disabilities or mental health conditions. Attendees gained valuable strategies for fostering safer, more informed, and more respectful interactions.
A Lasting Impact
The Grand Junction event underscored the power of community and the importance of accessible, high-quality resources for neurodivergent individuals and their families. Through vendor connections, presentations, and meaningful conversations, attendees left with new insights, tools, and pathways for support. We extend our sincere thanks to Rocky Mountain Health Plans, Horizon Neuropsychological Services LLC, Oliver Behavioral Consultants, Pulse Line Collaborative Training LLC, and every vendor, presenter, and attendee who helped make this event impactful for the Western Slope community.
